Yay! Devil May Cry HD is Here~!

Devil May Cry HD

A shopping trip to the mall paid off today! I’ve been waiting forever for Devil May Cry HD to be available here in Finland and now it has happened at last! You can only imagine my exhilaration when idly browsing the game-section and unexpectedly this came  up! *fangirl squeal!*

I’ve been a fan of the Devil May Cry-series since the first game was published (and actually went out and bought the PlayStation2-console just because of this one game… ^__^;; ) and ever since then I’ve eagerly anticipated for the new installments to the series (although Devil May Cry2 is the weakest link in the series, it didn’t make me lose my hopes for the third game… and that exceeded my expectations.). But, the first DMC-game is still, and will be, my favorite game in the series.

I just can’t forget how cool it was to play the game, how the mix of well-paced action, eerie overall atmosphere and the masterpiece of a soundtrack made me lose myself in the game for hours on end… If you have a game that has been a turning-point in your gaming-life I’m sure you can relate to that feeling. :3

So, it will most likely be a very nostalgic feeling to play the first DMC game again, now with improved graphics and whatnot. It has been about 10 years since I played that game for the first time… And around that time, I also became interested in anime and manga too (after finding out DMC was a japanese game, I started exploring and found out they made all sorts of great stuff in Japan, not just games!), so this is a trip down the memory lane for me, too! Playing these games again will be a great way to celebrate a decade of geekiness, don’t you think?! 🙂

Here’s a pic of my Dante-action figure (still in his box, it’s always a debate against myself, whether to take the figures from their boxes or leave them there and just admire them from the distance… *sigh* But it’s so fun to just touch them and play with them too!) and the DMC HD-game package together;

I’ll review the HD version of these games as soon as I get the time to play them… So stay tuned and keep an eye on this blog if this caught your interest, mwahahaha. >:) *shameless*

Pelaamat taas on loistava tapa juhlistaa vuosikymmenen geekiness, eikö?! 🙂

Tässä on kuva minun Dante-Action Figure (edelleen hänen ruutuun, se on aina keskustelun vastaan itse, ottaako lukuja niiden laatikoiden tai jättää ne sinne ja vain ihailla niitä kaukaa … * huokaus * Mutta se on niin hauskaa koskettamalla niitä ja leikkiä heidän kanssaan myös!) ja DMC HD-peli samassa paketissa;

Searching for Possible Steampunk (or perhaps Teslapunk?)-influences with Sebastian

My current obsession is Steampunk and the sub-genres it has spurred (like the art deco-era influenced Teslapunk. Search the web for more information if you aren’t familiar with these terms.)

I went to see a play at the Helsinki City Theatre and much to my surprise, the hotel I stayed at had a very inspirational effect on me. I’ve decided that this summer will be my “Summer of Steampunk” – I’ll take steampunk-inspired photos, dress myself in steampunky clothes and gather as much information on the subject as I can… As a cherry on top of the ice-cream-sundae, I’ll have a steampunk-inspired party-dress complete with a real corset and it will be ready by the end of this Summer. Just in time for a very important family occasion this September. I’m having the dress specially tailor-made to suit my tastes.

I’ll also blog about my ventures in this sub-culture and scifi-genre, so if you’re interested, feel free to follow my quest. 🙂 So far I only have some pieces of clothing that can be used in a steampunk-styled garderobe, real from-the-era pinch-nase sunglasses and a couple of photographs that have yet to be edited for your internet-viewing pleasure…

But meanwhile, enjoy a photoshoot with Sebastian.

Sebastian looms behinds the curtains…

I like the way Sebastian’s shadows are casted on the floor in this picture.

Sebastian and Spica kindly thank you for viewing these photos and this blog. If you could take some time and drop a few lines as comments, we’d be most delighted~

Even Stranger Things Have Happened – A Visit to Tampere Part 2 Sunday

We started our Sunday at Tampere with a visit to a small idyllic café called Taikapapu – or Magic Bean. My goal is to visit places with an interesting name and Magic Bean sounded really interesting to me! I can recommend the place warmly. I ordered a small Latte and an apple pie that I asked for the nice caf’é-keeper-lady to warm up for me.

Rainbow Dash thinks even Applejack would approve of this pie~ The pie was soft and the apples weren’t too sweet – just right amount of sugar and the sourness of the apples came nicely through. It is unusual to find good pies in Finnish cafés – they are usually either too sweet or not sweet enough.

Small and not-so-showy inside – Magic Bean café still has a nice and cozy atmosphere. They also sell quality coffee beans by the weight so you can enjoy fresh coffee at home too~

I bought some Créme de Paris coffee beans (follow the arrow in the picture~). I love french roast coffee, it is full in flavour but not too strong. (Wow, I made that sound almost like I knew something about coffee 😉 Like me, if you don’t have an espresso machine at home, they will kindly grind the beans for you at the café.

By the way, I would love to dye my hair the same color as those coffee beans. It’s a really lovely shade of dark brown.

After enjoying the coffee, we went to see the Moomin museum at the library. There were original drawings of Tove Jansson, the creator of world-famous Moomin troll books, on show as well as miniature models of the characters and scenes from the books made by Tove and her friends.

Unfortunately you aren’t allowed to take photos at the museum, but here’s what I wrote in the visitors’ book. Because the Moomin characters are really popular in Japan, lots of japanese tourists visit the museum too. I’m studying japanese, so I wrote a message to shamelessly advertise this blog~ 😀

A version of horseshoe-throwing game at the childrens’ playroom of the musem. Just had to try it…

Rainbow Dash makes friends with one of the Hattifatteners (a character from the Moomin books).

I was delighted that Grandpa Grumble – one of the characters in the books – is called “Sukurutta Ojisan” in japanese. ^__^ It sounds funny.

If you ever visit Tampere, you should try the japanese restaurant called Maruseki. I’ve been there many times and the food is always delicious. We were about to go eat there but alas- it wasn’t open on Sundays. So, because it was recommended to us, we went to eat at Plevna. Plevna is a brewery-style restaurant with their own trademark beers.

I had this “Tähti”; a typical finnish-style lager beer as it was advertised. The word tähti means “star” so I just had to try it out, since my name Spica is the brightest star in the constellation of Virgo, so I’ve adopted all kinds of stars as my trademark-thingy. 😉

I think the beer tasted OK, maybe a little “unmatured” in my opinion. They also had a traditional scandinavian mead (or sima) on their drink-menu. If you want to have a taste of what the vikings used to fuel their parties with, try this mead out. It was a little too sweet to my taste, but even so it is not so common to have mead on the menu so it is definitely worth to try it.

Wow, I sure ate “healthy” that weekend… Here’s the German-style currywurst and french fries I had at Plevna. Having eaten the “real thing” in Germany, I have to say this was pretty close to the original taste. Definitely a meal that “goes well” with a pint of beer… 😉 If you are a vegetarian, Plevna isn’t a place for you, though.

Aaaand— then we have the WTF? -part of this post. This was painted on the feedback box of the restaurant… 😀 Beerbugs or bugbeers, you decide. At least they seem to be hacing fun…

Rainbow Dash inspects the feedback my sister left at Plevna.

“We were positively surprised! Although Plevna was recommended to us, we checked the web to see reviews about Plevna and they weren’t all that flattering. But we’re glad we came to see for ourselves what this place had to offer!

The service was fast and the food was great – in fact the best we had here in Tampere this time. Currywurst was spicy enough, the french fries were crrrrispy and delicious, the beer-stewed beef tasty and the liver was fried skillfully. And not to mention the mead! Thank you! We will recommend Plevna to our friends and it is worth the trip from Turku to Tampere just to come and eat here!”

I’ve Seen Stranger Things Happen – A Visit to Tampere Part 1

Me, my sister and my friend took a short weekend trip to Tampere. Here’s a patch of photos that express some of the feelings and occurrences of that trip~ I would have wanted to take one of my dolls with me for a photoshoot at different surroundings but it was raining when we left home on Saturday so I decided to bring my G4 Rainbow Dash-pony as a surrogate photomodel instead. She fits in my pocket nicely, so she was safely out of the rain. ^__^

(BTW, do I detect a plausible reason to get me a YO-SD-sized doll (that is – ca. 25 cm BJD doll) – easier to take on trips when you can’t carry a huge 70 cm guy with you all the time? >:3 )

I had a hotdog on the train~ Wheee!

Apparently there has been a catering service on the trains for 100 years in Finland. They are having some special offers to celebrate it on the train cafeteria. Rainbow Dash has got her eyes on those chocolate pralines~

…mm chocolate… Rainbow Dash sure is keen on candy… These were cute mini-sized pralines.

Mini-sized, just like it says on the chocolate… Rainbow Dash loooooms in the background.

Um… yes, we do appreciate our retro here in Finland… eheheh. This is the train cafeteria from an older train. The ones that run on the Turku-Helsinki track are newer and flashier.

…aaaaand we’ve arrived at Tampere! No overall piccies of the city itself you can search the web to see those kind of photos elsewhere. We went to see a Text Art-exhibition at TR1 Art Hall. There were text and poetry art mainly by British artists on show there.

Dashy is all LoLs and hearts as you can see. XD ❤

There was a wall where you could write or draw about your favorite game/s. I drew Dante from Devil May Cry.

Rainbow Dash loves the colourful wall of post-its eventhough all the colors of the rainbow are not represented…

An old advertisement in a magazine at the media museum. Advertising somekind of all-purpose medicine…

It says: “Look at the picture closely so you can see how the pill is inserted in to the mouth.” Freaky, huh? O___O “Ooh! I can see it! Look at that pill go! It makes me want to buy this! Woot!!”

Poetry for the Eye indeed.

Go ahead, call this blog a comeback.

Eeeeyupp! Made me some of ’em poems, yes I sure did!

It says: “Adventure-passion drink, please!”

“Hatred

A peculiar cottonwool hits – where’s the police”

“Dream Mom

A brutal date-friday

Give me kisses hair-saturday

A really wonderful sparkle-world is disturbing!”

And last but not least: My Favorite One:

“Control pain crayfish, please.” I’m really proud of this one, I really am! :3 Why should I have to sense make, Yoda?

Could Rainbow Dash be the secret mastermind behind all this poem madness?!

Some Finnish artists’ video-installation. Or piccies of it. Can’t remember the name of the artist. If you are this artist, and happen to miraculously read this blog, tell me your name and if you don’t want these pics posted here, I’ll take them down. :3

Dashy gets artsy. I really like these pictures and the red light. (No, it’s not Dashy in the Red Lights District, you dirty creep. ;D )

Dashy enjoys design-lamps. (There were some Finnish-design on show too)

Hiya!

Me and my friend. Through the shadow-casted looking-glass.

Not to get TOO artsy, we went to have lunch at an American Diner… I love neon-lights~

I had this little fellow with me too! Konoe from Lamento showing off with a glass of my favorite drink – Diet Coke~!

Coke ‘n’ Konoe~! What a delicious treat. Konoe here is a On Coin-Figure by Kotobukiya, he belongs to the series of figures called Chiral Gakuen, which means the Chiral Academy (basing on a group called Nitro+Chiral who make *amazing* Visual Novel-games~! Check them out, I mean it! (my favorite game by them so far is Togainu no Chi).

That Diner had good lighting for figure-photography~ hmmm… *note to self*

…aaaaand here’s what I ate there! A gigantic plate of Diner-food. It’s a teriyaki-burger with cole-slaw. Cole-slaw is yummy!

And if that didn’t scare you enough, here’s some artificial eyes for you. In a box. Enjoy! (We went to visit an exhibition about handicaps… because they had free entrance and we had time to kill… yup. Isn’t it obvious this kind of situation calls for pictures of artificial eyes?)

Awww… artificial eyes, so funneh~ Nothing says Be mine like a box of artificial eyes staring into your soooooouuuul, eh?!

CyborgBarbies are the Best~! –Ei Robottibarbin voittanutta~!

Look what me and my sister found on sale~! A cool Barbie that is a doll AND a videocamera!

Katsokaas mitä minä ja siskoni löydettiin tarjouksesta! Mahtava Barbie – nukke JA videokamera samassa paketissa!

Wouldn’t it have been cooler if they’d made her EYES be the lenses? Or better yet, a third eye lens on her forehead! Bwahahah! Ok, I’m being evil. She’s fine the way she is. I think she’s pretty and the videocamera-parts are made with good taste. Also, the clothes are nifty and very much in 1980’s style, which is the decade I relate with barbies mostly, because I was a child then and had a couple of barbies too.

I find that some BJD-owners don’t hold Barbies or other “toy-dolls” in much value, but I think all kinds of dolls can be nice in their own ways. It’s pretty harsh to compare a hand-made BJD to a mass-produced Barbie-doll. They have completely different purposes.

She really looks like a cyborg, especially from the back with that screen and the control buttons visible and all. :3

I wish they made more toy-dolls for girls to look like robots. Imagine the possibilities of what you could play with a robot Barbie~

I have to say the backside of this box is my favorite part, hands down! XD Not only can you see that awesome robot-like screen on the dolls’ back, but you get all these funny marketing phrases and icons too! Let me show you;

For some reason I find this extremely hilarious… Think of what you could film with a doll like that… XD And holding her in your fist looks funny too. Let alone this:

Now, if you saw this without the rest of the box, what kind of connotations comes to your mind? “Play and shoot”?! Is this really a lesson an innocent Barbie-doll should teach children? XD (I think I’ll use this as this blogs’ new motto or something. This would also make a great T-shirt!)

…just exactly what kind of Barbie-action are we talking about here? O3O Is this *really* for kids?

…Ok, I had my fun. ^__^ I’m going to have some Barbie-action now!

Now Something Completely Different… Ja nyt jtn IHAN erilaista.

Can’t stop laughing at this: / Ei voi lopettaa tälle repeilemistä;

In English;

“HELLOOOOO!”

“The rumours about my death are strongly exaggerated.”

“Let’s meet again,–GAIN.”

…I know, it doesn’t make ANY sense. And that’s why it is so funny. Yet another reason to learn Finnish, eh? ;d

It has become our custom to say that “Let’s meet againGAIN.”-thing whenever we part with my friends and a couple of my cousins who have seen this video too.

Tällaista Spican huumorintaju on… Joko jänskättää?

My new BJD – DikaDoll Adler in Tan – uusi BJD-nukkeni DikaDoll Adler tan

Ever since I discovered DikaDoll, I’ve adored almost all of their dolls and molds. But some have grown more into my heart than others and those are the dolls that will move in with me someday. ^3^

I had been looking for just the right BJD for me, from the day back in 2006-2007 when I first discovered these dolls through a German anime-magazine (Animania, I think…). Back then,I thought the massive amount of things that needed to be learned about ordering a doll, let alone handling one, and the information about the manufacturers that produced resin dolls were very confusing and hard to grasp. Also, the people who were into this BJD-hobby seemed quite intimidating and rude towards new-beginners. So I buried the idea about my own doll for many years, but never completely forgot about them.

The first doll company that caught my eye was Volks, and I adored their larger, Super Dollfie Male dolls. However, I couldn’t find just *the right mold* for me, so I kept searching, expanding my view to other companies too. In the Autumn of 2011 I found out about a company called DikaDoll and became mesmerized by their doll molds and especially their Senior 73 cm BJD-line. Because DikaDoll is a bit of a new-comer as a company, there isn’t so many owner pictures of their dolls around the web.

Later that year I registered to a doll forum (Pullip Suomi) that was oriented towards Pullip and Taeyang -doll owners. The forum offered a discussion area for BJD-dolls too, where you could post photos of yoyr BJDs. And especially one particular and very handsome doll caught my eye there; DikaDoll Batian. With the owner of Batian, we found out that we had quite similar tastes in many other things as well as dolls and became friends pretty quickly. :3 (You know who you are, wave for me, please! ^__^ ❤ !) Seeing the owner pictures of Batian, I totally fell in love with him and DikaDolls’ Senior male dolls all over again… And it helped me make my decision to order my own BJD – at last!

DikaDoll Autumn became my first BJD and at the same time, is – alongside Batian – in my opinion one of the most handsome dolls DikaDoll (or any other doll company, heheh) has created, but I’ve always adored Dika’s Adler too. I wanted my next doll to look more like a middle-aged man in comparison to Autumns’ (or Xavier, as I call him) younger “twenty-something” -looks, and Adler fits the part perfectly. (By the way, why is there hardly any older-looking BJD’s around?)

DikaDoll Adler with normal skin color. Image by DikaDoll.

So, I wanted my Adler with the tan skin because I thought it suits the mold best. (Also, I adore Kotetsu from the anime Tiger and Bunny … and he has tan skin… heheh ;3 )However, I didn’t want my Adler with the “Jack Sparrow look-a-likeness” as Dika’s pictures present him in tan, so I ordered him with the same face-up as the normal-skin version of Adler.

As it turned out, this was my last chance to get Adler in tan, because DikaDoll has decided not to produce tan skinned dolls anymore… That’s pretty sad, because I think Dika’s tan skin colour is very beautiful. But I’m still happy I’ll be able to have my Adler with the tan skin.

Adler in tan. Image by DikaDoll.

He’s going to be my character Abelard “Bram” Sachs, Xavier’s dear friend and the adoptive father of Holly Sachs, my future MSD-girl. I’m a bit nervous about how the tan skin will actually look in reality and how much the seams will be showing (apparently it is harder to sand off the seams from tanned resin than normal colored or white resin…) But in most of the pictures I’ve seen around the web, the seams are nearly not visible at all. And one owner of Dika’s tan-skinned doll wrote that the seams on Dika’s dolls are nearly non-existent. So I’m having a positive feeling about my “tanBram” as I jokingly like to call him. ;D

Anyway, I’m really excited and can’t wait to have Bram finally home~ ❤ Xavier seems to be a bit lonely too, without a doll of the same size to keep him company. It will be fun to take photoshoots of the two of them together~

Ja sama suomeksi! :D

En kuitenkaan unohtanut näitä ihania nukkeja kokonaan vaan aina mielen perukoilla majaili ajatus omasta nukkeloisesta.

Joten minulla on aika hyvä fiilis tästä “tanBramistani” kuten häntä hassutellen kutsun. ;D

Jokatapauksessa olen tosi innostunut enkä malta odottaa että saan Bramin sitten vihdoin kotiin! Xavier vaikuttaa myös melko yksinäiseltä ilman samankokoista nukkeseuraa. Tulee kyllä olemaan hauskaa ottaa valokuvia näistä kahdesta yhdessä~

Enjoying a Spring Walk – Kevätkävelyllä Naantalissa

It was a nice weather on Easter Monday so we decided to go for a walk. And I never pass an opportunity to snatch some photos of Xavier out and about.

—-

Pääsiäismaanantaina oli kiva ilma, joten päätimme mennä kävelylle Naantaliin. …ja minähän en koskaan jätä tilaisuutta käyttämättä napatakseni muutaman kuvan Xavierista ulkosalla.

It seems pretty mind-boggling for Xavier to think that you can form a stone to resemble a human – or a doll… and that everything formed by human hands will crumble in time…

Eventhough spring is the time of new life and new beginnings, this forlorn statue reminds us of the lingering sadness of evanescence.

Eventhough the sweetly warming rays of the sun have called upon new growth, all of the ice hasn’t melted yet.

Life has many different kinds of beautiful forms and shapes.

Elämä saa aikaan paljon erilaisia kauniita muotoja ja kuvioita.

Happy Easter with Xavier and Easter G3 Ponies!

Ok, so Easter 2012 came and went but here are some piccies to remember it by~

Xavier, my DikaDoll Autumn BJD doll has received a huge surprise egg to celebrate the occasion!

Xav: *begins to open the egg* I thought I heard some noise coming from inside of this egg!? What if there aree living easter chicks inside?!

Xav: …but O___O How is this possible?!

Xav: Ponies!? Hatching from an egg?! And these ponies aren’t even pegasi but plain ordinary ponies too…

Ponies: GASP! Air!! Finally!

Spica: I wonder if you could call this immaculate procreation – ponies hatching from eggs… No wonder there are not so many male My Little Ponies… (and I don’t think the Generation 3 ponies had any boys for that matter!)

Xavier: Look at me, I must have a natural talent in animal-taming, they are already eating from my hand.

Spica: These are G3 Easter ponies – the yellow one is called Gigglebean (what a ludicrous name… pffft.) and the pink is Sunshine Parade. ❤ I love them. BTW, I mainly collect ponies that have something to do with a certain holiday (like Easter or Christmas), male ponies and ponies that have a star-related thing on their cutie mark.

Xavier really knows how to handle animals.

Happy Easter everyone! It’s finally spring, let’s enjoy it together with our small friends, be it dolls, ponies …or yellow, fluffy chicks.
